President’s update on the BTC 2020 activities:

In the light of the ongoing and evolving Coronavirus crisis, the Blackheath Theatre Company has taken several decisions that will affect our 2020 Events programme. None of those decisions were taken lightly.

We still believe in that programme which promised an exciting second year on our journey to deliver our three-year vision. We are still determined to establish a widely recognised centre of excellence for community theatre, based in Blackheath, and to provide a centre for personal growth in the primary theatrical arts.

However, along with so many other organisations, we must observe the common sense regulations now being applied.

Productions

Shakespeare expressed it famously in Hamlet: “The play is the thing” …… But, sadly, not quite in the original schedule we planned. So, we are postponing the staging of our first two production seasons.

  1. More than a Little Black Dress was scheduled for 7 – 10 May
  2. Out of the Blue season of new one act plays was scheduled for 23 – 26 July

It is a postponement, but like everyone else we cannot be sure what timing will be possible for a re-instatement, which is our strong intention. The third production, The Peach Season is scheduled for 1 – 4 October. The coming months will help determine its fate.

Professional Development series of workshops

The same uncertainty is impacting our workshops. The first two of the year were well attended and won much praise from the attendees. However we had to postpone this month’s workshops, and regretfully no bookings can be taken until further notice for the workshops which were scheduled for June, July and September.

Theatre parties

Our popular series of theatre parties where we take groups of members to productions staged by our fellow theatre companies in the region is also on hold as follows:

Orson’s Shadow – planned for 23 May.

This production will not go ahead. The tickets will be held over until 21 November when the Glenbrook Players will hopefully stage this production.

Wharf Revue – planned for 15 August

No advice from The Joan Sutherland Centre at this stage

Kangaroo – planned for 5 September

No advice from The Joan Sutherland Centre at this stage

Thank you for your ongoing support and interest in the Blackheath Theatre Company. Please stay tuned for further updates – hopefully bringing you positive news as it occurs.

President
