February sees the launch of the Blackheath Theatre Company’s 2020 vision year. This is only the beginning. The Blackheath Theatre Company 2020 Calendar featured below showcases the scope of what we will be offering this year.

Ambitious? Yes.

But it is exciting, and it fulfills the theatrical commitment and enjoyment we have pledged to deliver to our community.

On the Front Foot:

We want to get an early start on recruiting and helping existing and potential acting and directing talent to get the best out of the 2020 programme.

Two exciting February workshops:

Th is a unique chance to crunch that acting skill and overcome those audition blues. Come along and learn how to strengthen your audition piece and intrigue the casting director/s.

On 1 February – “Audition with Attitude” 2-hour workshop to help prepare aspiring actors to get on the radar of directors, will be directed by Ralph Andrews. Ralph has a strong performing pedigree in Sydney theatres as well as more than 10 years as a professional trainer. He also starred in leading roles in two of the BTC highly successful 2019 productions.  (Starts at 2pm at 19 Staveley Parade, Blackheath. $20 for members).

On 15 February“The Director’s Toolkit” is where we switch the spotlight to the director’s role. John Bailey will facilitate a 4-hour workshop, delivering a valuable insight into the aspects of directing and production styles. John has achieved an enviable status in community and professional theatre as an actor and director both in Australia and New Zealand.  (Starts at 10.30 in the Baptist Church Hall, 6 Bundarra Street, Blackheath. $40 for members includes morning tea and lunch).

As always our excellent director of professional development, Chris Watts, is facilitating this integral part of the programme to strengthen and sustain the Company’s vision: “Creating a centre of excellence for community theatre, based in Blackheath and provide a centre for personal growth in the primary theatrical arts.”

Don’t be shy. Let your talent shine.

Out of the Blue 2020 – new one act plays shortlisted for Blackheath Theatre Company

The Blackheath Theatre Company’s Out of the Blue 2020 project invited playwrights to submit new one act plays for production in early May. Once again, we were delighted to get an insight into the potential talent that exists in our community.

We received a wide range of thoughtful and accomplished submissions. The 16 plays we received were assessed by our selection panel. A short list of six has been compiled. These will be subject to a script reading rehearsals on several nights between 17 February and 13 March.

The six chosen authors are being notified this week. As are potential directors who will be responsible for recruiting actor/readers to participate in those rehearsals’ sessions. Blackheath Theatre Company members will get the chance to see the six plays over two nights in March and will vote on which four plays will go forward to our full performance production season between 7 and 10 May.

By this announcement we are calling for an early show of interest from anyone – with or without previous acting experience – who would like to take part in the script reading rehearsal sessions. The sessions will be co-ordinated by the BTC’s Dramaturg, Liz de Koster. Please register your interest by calling Liz on 0477 827 752: email Lizdek1@hotmail.com or BTC’s Artistic Director Paulina Kelly on 0415 153 333: email paulinak@tpg.com.au

Don’t miss this exciting chance to try out your budding (or well proven) performance talents.
